Successful turnip cultivation – our tips

Sowing

• Sow directly in the open ground from March to August, in rows 20-25 cm apart.

Care and diseases

• Prefer light, fertile soil.
• Keep the soil moist, watering generously in hot weather.
• Thin out seedlings once they reach 5 cm in height and have 2 to 3 leaves, keeping 10 cm spacing between plants.
• Common issues:
  • Powdery mildew (yellowing and white spots on leaves) – Prevent with plant-based sprays.
  • Root rot – Avoid overly wet soil.
  • Cabbage fly – Plant with fennel to help deter pests.

Harvesting

• 2 months after sowing for summer plantings.
• 3 months after sowing for autumn plantings.
