Product description

Tomato triomphe of Liège

The Triomphe de Liège is an old Belgian tomato variety, originating from the Liège region. This highly productive tomato has characteristics of the Marmande-type. The fruits are medium-sized, flat, and have a rich red color. The flesh is dense, providing a firm texture. This variety has excellent resistance to diseases and is ideal for moist regions. With its indeterminate growth and relatively early harvest time, the Triomphe de Liège is a great choice for your garden.

Tips for Growing the Triomphe de Liège Tomato: Sowing, Transplanting, and Maintenance

Sowing:
Start by sowing the seeds at a constant temperature of at least 20°C (ideally 24°C) from mid-February to late March or early April. This ensures the seedlings germinate well. Maintain a warm, moist, and well-lit environment, regularly misting the seeds with water to promote growth.

Transplanting:
After germination, transplant the seedlings with 2 to 4 leaves into pots at temperatures between 15°C and 20°C. Once the seedlings are large enough, plant them at a distance of 50 x 80 cm in the ground after April 15th or after the last frost. In cooler regions, such as above the Loire, it is advisable to grow them under glass, although they can also be grown outdoors in well-lit and ventilated areas.

Maintenance:
For indeterminate varieties like the Triomphe de Liège, it is important to remove side shoots that grow in the leaf axils. This encourages the formation of high-quality fruits instead of quantity. For determinate varieties, pruning is not necessary; you should instead use a mulch layer and guidance.

Maintenance and Disease Prevention for the Triomphe de Liège Tomato

Tomatoes like the Triomphe de Liège require warmth and organic matter, especially potassium (K). When planting, bury a large part of the stem to promote root development. In northern regions, lightly prune the plants to prevent the leaves from touching the ground, which could increase the risk of fungal diseases.

Water the plants regularly without getting the foliage wet, as tomatoes are very susceptible to mildew. For prevention, you can spray with nettle tea or horsetail decoction to strengthen the plants against fungal diseases. Powdered seaweed (lithothamnion) can also be helpful.

A very effective fertilizer is Pur'Mel 3, which consists of a combination of nettles, comfrey, and horsetail. Dilute it with 10% water and spray the leaves every two weeks as a preventive measure. In case of mildew infection, increase the concentration to 30% and spray the leaves twice a week until the disease disappears.

Harvesting the Triomphe de Liège Tomato

The Triomphe de Liège is a relatively early variety and can be harvested about two months after planting. Ripe tomatoes fall easily from the plant, making harvesting simpler.
