Product description

Tomato Téton de Vénus

The Téton de Vénus tomato is a classic, old variety originally from Italy. This round, red tomato is distinguished by the large nipple on top and has firm flesh with few seeds. The flavor is sweet and mild, making it ideal for raw use, salads, and other dishes. As a mid-season variety, it grows indeterminately and is suitable for various climates.

Tips for Growing the Téton de Vénus Tomato: Sowing, Transplanting, and Maintenance

  1. Sowing Seeds: Start sowing Téton de Vénus tomato seeds in a warm environment, ideally at 24°C (minimum 20°C). Sow between mid-February and late March, approximately 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting into the ground.

  2. Transplanting: When the seedlings have 2 to 4 leaves, transplant them into pots. Keep the temperature between 15 and 20°C for optimal root development. Transplant the seedlings after April 15 (under glass or after the last frost outdoors) at a distance of 50 x 80 cm in the ground. It is recommended to grow under glass in northern regions.

  3. Pruning and Support: For indeterminate varieties like the Téton de Vénus, it is recommended to prune the side shoots that grow in the leaf axils. This promotes the development of quality fruit. For determinate varieties, use a mulch layer and ensure proper support for the plants.

Maintenance and Disease Prevention for the Téton de Vénus Tomato

  • Requirements: Téton de Vénus tomatoes require warmth and benefit from soil rich in organic matter, especially potassium (K). Bury a large part of the stem during planting to encourage root development.

  • Disease Prevention: Tomatoes are sensitive to mildew, so it’s important to water regularly without wetting the foliage. For prevention, use nettle liquid manure or horsetail broth to strengthen the plant against diseases. Lithothamne (seaweed powder) can also be useful for extra protection.

  • Pur'Mel 3 Fertilizer: This fertilizer, containing a mix of nettle, comfrey, and horsetail, is particularly effective. Dilute it with 10% water for prevention and spray the foliage every two weeks. For mildew infestations, dilute to 30% and spray twice a week until the disease is gone.

Harvesting the Téton de Vénus Tomato

The Téton de Vénus is a mid-season variety and is harvested approximately 2.5 months after planting. When the tomatoes are ripe, they will easily fall from the plant.

Health Benefits

The Téton de Vénus tomato is not only delicious but also an excellent source of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that promote overall health. Add these tomatoes to your diet for a tasty and healthy addition to your meals.
