Product description

Tomato Pineapple Black

The Ananas Noire Tomato is an exceptional Belgian variety, known for its delicious taste and large, pineapple-shaped fruits. The fruit has a beautiful purple color with red and green veins and is rich in fleshy pulp. This tomato is a mid-season variety with indeterminate growth, meaning it continues to grow and produce fruit throughout the season.

Cultivation Tips for the Organic and Reproducible Ananas Noire Tomato: Sowing, Transplanting, and Care

  • Sowing: Sow the seeds indoors at a constant temperature of at least 20°C (ideally 24°C) between mid-February and late March/early April. This should be done approximately 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting them outside.

  • Transplanting: After germination, transplant the seedlings into pots once they have 2 to 4 leaves. Keep them in a warm environment of 15-20°C. After April 15 (under glass) or after the last frost outdoors, plant the seedlings in the ground, spacing them 50 x 80 cm apart. In cooler climates, such as north of the Loire, it's best to grow tomatoes in a greenhouse, though outdoor cultivation is possible in sunny, well-ventilated areas.

  • Pruning: For indeterminate varieties like Ananas Noire, prune the shoots growing in the leaf axils to encourage the formation of high-quality fruit rather than a large quantity. For determinate or bush tomatoes, don't prune but mulch and provide support.

Care and Disease Prevention for the Ananas Noire Tomato

  • Heat and Nutrition: Tomatoes, including Ananas Noire, need warmth and a lot of organic matter, particularly potassium (K). When planting, bury most of the stem underground to encourage root development.

  • Watering: Water regularly without wetting the leaves, as tomatoes are highly susceptible to mildew.

  • Disease Prevention: As a preventive measure, regularly spray with horsetail extract or nettle tea to strengthen the plant against fungal diseases. Seaweed powder (lithothamnium) can also be helpful.

  • Pur'Mel 3 Fertilizer: This ready-to-use fertilizer, a mix of nettle, comfrey, and horsetail, is very effective. Dilute it with 10% water for preventive spraying and apply every two weeks. For mildew infections, dilute it to 30% and spray the leaves twice a week until the disease is gone.

Harvesting the Ananas Noire Tomato

  • The Ananas Noire tomatoes can be harvested once they are ripe and easily fall off the plant.
  • Early varieties are harvested about 2 months after planting, mid-season varieties like Ananas Noire are harvested about 2.5 months after planting, and late varieties are harvested around 3 months after planting.

Nutritional Benefits and Health

  • The Ananas Noire Tomato is not only delicious but also an excellent source of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that are beneficial to your health.
  • Rich in lycopene, which helps protect the body from harmful UV rays, and vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system and aids in the absorption of iron and calcium.
  • Thanks to its high potassium content, the tomato is also heart-healthy and can help lower blood pressure.
  • Additionally, the tomato is an excellent choice for weight loss, as it is low in calories and rich in fiber, which helps eliminate bad fats from the body.

With proper care and attention, the Ananas Noire Tomato will be a tasty and healthy addition to your garden.
