Product description

Tomato Noire de Crimée

The Noire de Crimée tomato is a powerful, medium-sized tomato with round fruits that have a Bordeaux-red, almost black color. These tomatoes are beloved for their dense, sweet flesh without acidity, making them particularly appealing to children. As a mid-season variety with indeterminate growth, the Noire de Crimée is perfect for both gardening and culinary uses.

Why Choose the Noire de Crimée Tomato?

The Noire de Crimée tomato has several advantages:

  • Sweet and flavorful: The tomatoes have a very sweet taste, without the usual acidity, making them ideal for children and connoisseurs alike.
  • Mid-season: This tomato ripens in about 2.5 months, making it perfect for those seeking a quick harvest.
  • Indeterminate growth: This makes the plant suitable for longer growing seasons and provides a continuous harvest.
  • Excellent quality: Thanks to the dense flesh, these tomatoes are not only delicious but also perfect for a variety of recipes.

How to Grow Noire de Crimée Tomatoes: Sow, Transplant, and Care

Follow these simple steps to grow the Noire de Crimée tomato successfully.

Sowing Seeds

Sow the Noire de Crimée tomato indoors at a constant temperature of at least 20°C, ideally 24°C, from mid-February to late March or early April. This allows the seeds about 6 to 8 weeks to germinate before transplanting.

Transplanting to Pots and the Garden

Once the seedlings have 2 to 4 leaves, transplant them into pots at a warm location (15-20°C). Transplant them outside after April 15, ideally after the last frost, at a distance of 50 x 80 cm. If you live in a colder region, like north of the Loire, it is recommended to grow them under glass. Make sure the plants receive a well-lit and ventilated location.

Pruning and Maintenance
  • Indeterminate varieties: Prune the shoots that grow in the leaf axils to promote the formation of high-quality fruits instead of excessive growth.
  • Determinate varieties: Do not prune, but use a mulch layer and support the plants with guidance.
Disease Prevention

The Noire de Crimée tomato requires warmth and organic matter, especially potassium (K), for healthy growth. When planting, bury a large portion of the stem in the ground to promote root development.

  • In colder regions, light pruning can help prevent leaves from dragging on the ground, which can promote mildew.
  • Regularly spray with nettle tea or horsetail broth to protect the plants against fungal diseases and strengthen them.

Use Pur'Mel 3 fertilizer as an effective solution for your plant’s health. Dilute the fertilizer with 10% water for prevention and spray the leaves every two weeks. For a mildew infestation, dilute it with 30% water and spray the leaves twice a week until the disease disappears.

Harvesting the Noire de Crimée Tomato

The Noire de Crimée tomato is a mid-season variety and is ready to harvest about 2.5 months after planting. Ripe tomatoes fall easily from the plant, so pick them once they are fully black for the best taste.

Health Benefits of the Noire de Crimée Tomato

The Noire de Crimée tomato is not only a delicious choice for dishes but also a great source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that benefit your health. The tomatoes contain high amounts of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber, contributing to a healthy diet.
