Product description

Tomato Noire Russe Charboneuse

The Noire Russe Charboneuse Tomato is a mid-season variety with large, very dark red fruits. These tomatoes are known for their full, fleshy pulp with little juice and a pleasant, non-acidic flavor. With their low seed content, they are perfect for preparing various dishes. These tomatoes have an indeterminate growth pattern, meaning they continue to grow as long as the conditions are favorable.

Cultivation Tips for the Noire Russe Charboneuse Tomato

Sowing Tips: Sow the seeds indoors between mid-February and late March/early April. Ensure a constant temperature of at least 20°C, ideally 24°C, for optimal germination. Keep the seeds in a warm, slightly humid environment with adequate light and regular watering to promote growth.

Transplanting: Transplant seedlings to pots when they have 2 to 4 leaves, and maintain a temperature range of 15°C to 20°C. After April 15, you can plant them outdoors, spaced 50 x 80 cm apart. If you live north of the Loire, it's ideal to grow tomatoes under glass, but outdoor cultivation is possible if it's not too humid. Choose a sunny, well-ventilated spot, such as along a wall.

Pruning: For indeterminate varieties like this, prune the shoots growing in the leaf axils to encourage the formation of larger, quality fruits. For determinate or bush tomatoes, pruning is not necessary, but mulching and guiding the plants can help with growth.

Maintenance and Disease Prevention

Heat and Organic Matter: Tomatoes need a lot of warmth and are very hungry for organic matter. When planting, bury most of the stem in the soil to encourage root development.

Watering: Water the tomatoes regularly, but avoid wetting the leaves, as tomatoes are highly susceptible to mildew. For preventative measures, spray the plants with horsetail extract or nettle tea to strengthen them against fungal diseases. Seaweed powder (lithothamnium) can also be a good alternative for disease prevention.

Pur'Mel 3 Plant Fertilizer: Pur'Mel 3 fertilizer is highly effective due to the combination of nettle, comfrey, and horsetail. Mix it with water (10%) for prevention and spray the plants every two weeks. In case of mildew, dilute it with 30% water and spray twice a week until the disease is gone.

Harvesting the Noire Russe Charboneuse Tomato

The ripeness of the tomato is indicated when it easily falls off the plant. Early varieties are harvested about 2 months after planting, mid-season varieties about 2.5 months, and late varieties about 3 months.

Health Benefits of Tomatoes

Rich in Nutrients: The Noire Russe Charboneuse Tomato is not only delicious but also offers numerous health benefits. Tomatoes are packed with lycopene, which protects the body from harmful UV radiation. They are also an excellent source of vitamin C, which helps strengthen the immune system and improves the absorption of iron and calcium.

Health Benefits: Due to their high potassium content, tomatoes are great for managing high blood pressure and may have protective effects on the heart. Additionally, tomatoes are a low-calorie vegetable, rich in fiber, that helps eliminate bad fats and promote healthy digestion.
