Product description

Tomato Coeur de Boeuf Rose

The Coeur de Boeuf Rose is a classic and old tomato variety, originally from the southwest of France. The tomatoes have a heart-shaped structure and range in color from pink to reddish. The flesh is firm, with few seeds, and the taste is exceptionally sweet and aromatic. This late-ripening, indeterminate growing variety is highly valued by both gardeners and chefs.

Cultivation Tips for the Organic and Reproducible Coeur de Boeuf Rose Tomato Sow the tomato seeds indoors between mid-February and late March/early April (about 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outdoors). Ensure a constant temperature of at least 20°C (preferably around 24°C). The environment should remain light, warm, and moist, and water the seedlings regularly without overwatering them.

Transplant the seedlings to pots once they have 2 to 4 leaves and keep them in a warm place (15-20°C) until they are large enough to be planted in the ground. After April 15, the seedlings can be planted outside, either under a greenhouse or in a well-lit and well-ventilated outdoor spot. A sunny location is essential for optimal growth.

Pruning and Maintenance For indeterminate-growing tomatoes, it is advisable to prune the shoots that grow from the leaf axils. This encourages the plant to produce high-quality fruits instead of an abundance of lesser fruits. For determinate or bush tomatoes, avoid pruning and instead mulch and train the plants.

Tomatoes require a lot of warmth and organic matter to grow well. When planting, bury a large portion of the stem in the ground to promote root development. In northern regions, it is recommended to prune the plants lightly so that the leaves do not touch the ground.

Watering and Disease Prevention Water tomatoes regularly, but avoid wetting the leaves, as tomatoes are susceptible to mildew. As a preventive measure, you can spray the plants with horsetail extract or nettle tea, which protects the plant from fungal diseases. Seaweed powder (lithothamnium) is also a good alternative.

The ready-made Pur'Mel 3 plant food, a mixture of horsetail, nettle, and comfrey, is very effective for healthy growth. Dilute it with 10% water and spray the leaves every two weeks as a preventive measure. In case of mildew attacks, dilute it with 30% water and treat the leaves twice a week until the disease disappears.

Harvesting Tomatoes are ripe when they easily detach from the plant. Early varieties are harvested about two months after planting, mid-season varieties are harvested after about 2.5 months, and late varieties are harvested around three months after planting.

Health Benefits of the Coeur de Boeuf Rose Tomato Homegrown tomatoes offer numerous health benefits. They are rich in lycopene, which helps protect the body from harmful UV radiation from the sun. Additionally, they contain a high amount of vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system and improves the absorption of iron and calcium. Due to their high potassium content, tomatoes are also effective at lowering blood pressure and protecting the heart.

Tomatoes are also an excellent choice for those watching their weight, as they are low in calories and high in fiber, which helps the body eliminate unwanted fats.
