Product description

Tomato Blush

The Blush tomato is an original and highly productive variety originating from the United States. It produces clusters of about ten small, oblong-shaped fruits that are yellow-orange in color with distinctive red stripes. The Blush tomato is known for its excellent flavor: a delightful combination of sweetness and refreshment. Additionally, this variety has good disease resistance and stores well after harvesting. It is a mid-season tomato with indeterminate growth.

Tips for Growing the Organic and Reproducible Blush Tomato: Sowing, Transplanting, and Maintenance

Start sowing the seeds at a constant temperature of at least 20°C, preferably 24°C, from mid-February to late March/early April (about 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting into the ground). Ensure a warm, moist, and well-lit environment by regularly lightly spraying.

After germination, transplant the seedlings with 2 to 4 leaves into pots at a temperature of 15-20°C. Then, transplant the seedlings into the ground at a 50 x 80 cm distance after April 15, under glass or after the last frost outdoors. If you live north of the Loire, it is recommended to grow tomatoes under glass, but you can also grow them outdoors in well-lit and ventilated areas.

For indeterminate varieties, prune the shoots growing in the leaf axils to encourage the development of quality fruits instead of quantity. For determinate varieties, do not prune but use a mulch layer and support.

Maintenance and Disease Prevention of the Blush Tomato

Blush tomatoes need warmth and organic substances, especially potassium (K). When planting, bury a large part of the stem to promote root development.

In northern regions, it is advisable to lightly prune the plants to prevent the leaves from touching the ground. Water regularly without wetting the foliage, as tomatoes are highly sensitive to powdery mildew. As a preventive measure, you can spray nettle manure or horsetail broth to strengthen the plant against fungal diseases. Powdered seaweed (lithothamne) can also be helpful.

The ready-made Pur'Mel 3 fertilizer is highly effective due to the combination of nettle, comfrey, and horsetail. Dilute it with 10% water for prevention and spray the foliage every two weeks. In case of powdery mildew infection, dilute it with 30% and spray the leaves twice a week until the disease is gone.

Harvesting the Blush Tomato

The Blush tomato is a mid-season variety and can be harvested about 2.5 months after planting. Ripe tomatoes fall easily from the plant, making harvesting easier.
