Product description

Tomato Cœur de bœuf

The Coeur de Boeuf tomato is an old, extremely productive variety known for its heart-shaped, medium-sized fruits with sweet, dense flesh. These tomatoes are perfect for making stuffed dishes and offer excellent flavor. The Coeur de Boeuf is a mid-season tomato with an indeterminate growth cycle, making it a versatile choice for gardeners looking for both taste and yield.

Growing Instructions for Coeur de Boeuf Tomato: Sowing, Transplanting, and Maintenance

Sowing
Start sowing the seeds of the Coeur de Boeuf tomato from mid-February to late March or early April at a constant temperature of at least 20°C, ideally 24°C. This gives the seeds around 6 to 8 weeks to germinate before transplanting them into the soil.

Transplanting
Once the seedlings have developed 2 to 4 leaves, transplant them into pots at a temperature of 15 to 20°C. When moving them outdoors, plant them 50 x 80 cm apart after the last frost or under glass, usually around mid-April.

Well-Lit and Ventilated Area
Tomatoes grow best in well-lit and well-ventilated areas. If you live in a cooler climate, it is recommended to grow Coeur de Boeuf tomatoes under glass.

Maintenance and Disease Prevention for Coeur de Boeuf Tomatoes

Coeur de Boeuf tomatoes need warmth and rich organic matter, with an emphasis on potassium (K) for healthy growth. When planting, bury a large portion of the stem to stimulate root development.

In cooler climates, lightly prune the plants to prevent the leaves from touching the ground. This helps improve air circulation and reduces the risk of diseases.

Disease Prevention and Fertilization
Tomatoes are sensitive to mildew, so be sure not to wet the foliage when watering. Use preventive treatments such as nettle tea or horsetail decoction to strengthen your plants against fungal diseases. Seaweed powder can also be helpful in protecting the plant.

An effective fertilizer like Pur'Mel 3, which contains nettle, comfrey, and horsetail, can be used preventively. Dilute it with 10% water and spray the leaves every two weeks to promote the health of your tomatoes.

In case of mildew infestation, increase the dilution to 30% and spray the leaves twice a week until the disease disappears.

Harvesting the Coeur de Boeuf Tomato

The Coeur de Boeuf is a late-season variety, and it can be harvested about three months after planting. Ripe tomatoes easily fall off the plant, making them easy to collect.

Tips for a Healthy Harvest

The Coeur de Boeuf tomato is not only delicious but also rich in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals beneficial for health. With proper care and preventive measures, you can harvest this tomato in optimal condition and enjoy a delicious, nutritious crop.
