Small-leaved lime - Tilia cordata
Tilia cordata, the Small-leaved Lime, is a moderately large tree that can grow up to 20 metres high and 15 metres wide. The Small-leaved Lime is a rounded cone-shaped tree with landscape value that was formerly very often used as an espalier. The leaves are 3 to 6 cm, dark green, serrated and heart-shaped at the base. Tilia cordata flowers in June - July. The sweet-smelling, yellow, upright flower owls attract bees. After flowering, small round fruits with a wing appear. Tilia cordata prefers a sunny position and does well in every soil, tolerant of air pollution and sea wind.
