Product description

Stem Peas (Winter) Sima: Winter Peas for an Early Harvest of Small, Wrinkled Peas

The Sima is a winter pea that produces an abundance of small, wrinkled peas starting in May. This variety is ideal for growing in colder climates and yields an excellent harvest of flavorful peas that are perfect for various dishes. These winter peas are very suitable for growing in late autumn and winter, with a harvest in early spring.

Growing Tips for Stem Peas Sima (Winter Peas)

Soil Type and Growing Conditions: Stem peas, such as Sima, prefer loose, cool, and deep soil. Make sure the soil is well-drained so that the roots can develop properly. A well-prepared soil is essential for healthy plant growth.

Sowing Instructions: Sow the Sima in rows with a spacing of 50 cm and place the seeds every 2-3 cm at a depth of 2 cm. This ensures that the plants have enough space to grow and can produce optimally.

Spring Varieties:

  • Sow round-grain varieties from February to late April for a harvest in June-July (70-80 days after sowing).
  • Sow grain varieties from mid-March to late May for a harvest in July-August (70-90 days after sowing).
  • Sow in July for a harvest in October.

Winter Varieties - Sima: For the winter pea Sima, sow in October so that you can expect a harvest from May onwards. This makes Sima ideal for winter cultivation, especially in milder climates.

It is also possible to sow round-grain varieties in October-November (depending on the climate), for an early harvest that can be reaped from May.

Temperature and Coverage: The ideal temperature for germination is between 15° and 18° during the day and 10° to 7° at night. If necessary, you can cover the seeds with a tunnel or foil to improve the conditions. However, pea varieties like Sima are not cold-sensitive, and their foliage can tolerate temperatures as low as -10°C.

Support and Maintenance: Since Sima is a stem variety, it is important to support the plants to facilitate harvesting and prevent rot during wet weather. Ensure that you support the plants with branching branches, trellises, or other suitable supports (such as concrete mulch or mesh).

Height Requirements: Check the required height for the type of stem variety you are growing. Depending on the variety, the height can range from 50 cm to 150 cm. This is important to know before installing supports. For dwarf varieties or low-growing types, less support is needed, but taller varieties require sturdier and higher supports.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Hilling can help support the roots and keep the plant upright.
  • Mulching can be helpful to retain moisture and protect the roots in cold conditions.
  • Regularly check the plant height to ensure the proper support is applied at the right time, contributing to a successful harvest.

With this careful approach, you can make the most of your winter peas and expect an excellent harvest of Sima, with healthy, tasty peas that will enrich your garden.
