Product description

Norli Dwarf Pea: Early-Season Productive Variety

This is a medium-early, productive dwarf variety with broad, flat pods that are sweet and stringless. The seeds are round. Height: 50 cm.

Growing Advice for Norli Dwarf Pea:

  • Sowing: Plant peas in rows spaced 50 cm apart, placing one seed every 2-3 cm at a depth of 2 cm. Sowing directly into small holes is also possible.

  • Spring Varieties:

    • Sow round-seed varieties from March to late April for a June-July harvest (70-80 days), or sow in July for an October harvest.
    • Sow wrinkled-seed varieties from mid-March to late May for a July-August harvest (70-90 days), or sow in July for an October harvest.
    • Cover the sowing with a tunnel if needed (ideal germination temperature between 15°C-18°C during the day, and 10°C-7°C at night). However, peas tolerate cold and the leaves can withstand temperatures down to -10°C.
  • Winter Varieties:

    • Sow winter varieties in October for a harvest starting in May.
    • Peas can be sown later than beans, from April to June, or round-seed varieties can be sown in October-November (depending on the regional climate) for an early May harvest.

Maintenance:

  • Beans prefer loose, moist, and deep soil. Weed and water especially during the first weeks.
  • Thin to 20 cm apart.
  • Mound when the plant reaches 15 cm and support with branched twigs or other supports (trellis, concrete mesh...).
  • Support even the dwarf varieties to facilitate harvesting and prevent rot during wet weather.
  • Ensure regular watering and mulch to preserve moisture and freshness in the soil.

Harvesting:

  • Beans are typically harvested 70 to 100 days after sowing.
  • For shelling peas, harvest when the peas are fully formed (about 3 months after sowing).

Diseases:

  • Beans are susceptible to powdery mildew. To prevent this, avoid wetting the leaves during watering. Preventive or curative spraying with horsetail decoction can be useful.
  • Watch out for slugs early in the season and birds when sowing.

Tips:

  • Cold treatment and soaking the seeds before sowing can promote germination, but this is not necessary.
