Product description

Spaghetti Squash

The Spaghetti Squash is a sprawling variety that produces 2 to 5 elongated fruits per plant. The flesh is light yellow and has a unique texture that separates into firm, spaghetti-like strands when cooked. These strands can be prepared with tomato sauce, baked dishes, or cream for a delicious plant-based substitute for pasta.

Growing Tips for Spaghetti Squash

Sowing Instructions
Sow the Spaghetti Squash indoors (20°C) in pots from March to April to speed up fruiting and reduce pest damage. After the last frost (around May 15), transplant the seedlings outdoors with 1-meter spacing between plants, and up to 2 meters for sprawling varieties. Fill planting holes with compost for optimal growth.

You can also sow directly in the ground in May, but keep in mind the harvest will be later and possibly less abundant.

Maintenance and Growth
Spaghetti Squash needs a sunny location and thrives in soil rich in organic material. Ensure regular and abundant watering, especially during dry periods. Pruning is not necessary, but can be helpful in some cases.

Harvesting Advice
Harvest pumpkins at the end of the season when the leaves begin to wither and the stem feels dry. For better storage, harvest as late as possible (but before the first frost).

After harvesting, let the pumpkins sit in the sun for a day (protected from rain and frost) to allow the skin to dry. Then store them in a dry, well-ventilated place indoors for long-term preservation.

Helpful Tips from Semailles
Pumpkin seeds need warmth (20-22°C) to germinate. Be cautious about excess moisture as it may cause seedling rot.

Sometimes, a healthy plant may fail to produce fruit. This can be due to a lack of pollination, often caused by a shortage of pollinators in the garden. Try planting more flowers that attract insects. A lack of female flowers may also be a reason, often due to extreme heat. High temperatures affect both female flower production and the quality of male flower pollen. In such cases, protect your pumpkin plants by mulching or providing shade.
