Product description

Sambucus nigra 'Black Tower' is a striking addition to any garden, with its elegant columnar growth and deep purple leaves offering strong visual contrast. In spring, this beauty flaunts large purple-pink flowers, followed by clusters of purple-black berries after flowering. These berries are not only pleasing to the eye, but also attract birds, especially starlings, which love them.

What makes this plant even more interesting is its versatility. The flower heads can be used to add flavour to dishes like pancakes or deep-fried for a surprising twist. The berries are not only delicious but also useful in various culinary applications, ranging from elderberry juice to elderberry gin and jam. Note, however, that the leaves of this plant are poisonous, but valued in the medical world for their properties.

Interestingly, red deer are one of the few animals that can digest the toxins in the leaf, making them happy to eat it. As for care, the elder thrives in a variety of conditions, but prefers rich, moist soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. It can grow in both full sun and semi-shade, but the fruit will ripen best when it gets plenty of sunlight. With minimal requirements and maximum rewards, the elder is a valuable addition to any garden.
