Salvia pratensis - Organic perennial

Field sage (Salvia pratensis) is a plant of the Labiatae or Lamiaceae family. It is a hairy, slightly aromatic plant that grows on dry, calcareous soil. It is found throughout Europe, particularly in France. It grows in dry, calcareous grasslands on river dykes, dunes and verges. In the Netherlands, common sage is found mainly near the major rivers. It is on the Red List as rare. The species has declined by 25-50 percent since 1950, but since 1 January 2017 it is no longer protected by law. In Belgium, it is rare in the Meuse region and has almost disappeared elsewhere. The height of the plant is 30 - 60 cm. The lower leaves are up to 15 cm long. They form a leaf rosette that is wrinkled and elongated. The stem leaves are smaller, the upper ones unstalked. The flower is dark blue and up to 2.5 cm long. The upper lip is strongly curved and shaped like a helmet. The stamens and style protrude.
