Product description

Pole Bean (Runner Bean) Butter "Golden Gate"

The 'Golden Gate' pole bean is an excellent butter bean variety, also known as a snap bean, with broad, flat pods that are stringless. This makes it perfect for cutting and using in various dishes. Its long harvest period makes it a favorite among gardeners looking for an extended production of delicious beans.

Growing Tips for 'Golden Gate' Pole Bean (Snap Bean)

Sowing:
Sow 'Golden Gate' snap beans in the ground from May, once the last frost has passed. The soil should be warm and moist. Sow the seeds in rows with a distance of 10 cm between each seed, or in groups of 5-6 seeds spaced 50 cm apart. Use double rows, with 60-70 cm between them for optimal growth.

Soil and Location:
These beans prefer light, humus-rich soil and a sunny location. In poor or dry soil, the beans may become tougher and develop strings more quickly.

Spread Harvest:
Sow the beans every three weeks until mid-June to ensure a steady harvest throughout the fall.

Care and Disease Prevention:

Support:
Provide a support structure such as a trellis, tipi, or netting (about 2 meters high) for the beans to climb on.

Hilling:
Three weeks after emergence, hill the plants to ensure they remain sturdy and encourage healthy growth.

Watering:
Regular watering is crucial during dry periods to ensure healthy bean growth.

Diseases:
Be mindful of diseases like mildew and insects like the bean beetle. Ensure good ventilation and take preventative measures if necessary.

Harvesting:

'Golden Gate' pole beans can be harvested between 2.5 to 3 months after sowing, every 4-5 days. This variety has the advantage of producing over a longer period, ensuring a continuous harvest.

Growing Tips:

  • Soaking the seeds for 12-24 hours before sowing can help promote germination.
  • If you don't plan to use all your beans in the same year or discover insects in your seed packet, you can store the seeds in the freezer for a week as a preventive measure.
