Product description

Tomato Pepper – Organic Seeds

A mid-season pepper variety with medium-sized, round red fruits. The flesh has a fine texture and a mild, sweet taste with little heat.

Growing Tips for Tomato Pepper

Sowing

Sow indoors from February to March at a constant temperature of at least 23-24°C. Ensure a warm, humid environment with sufficient light and regular watering. Some pepper varieties take longer to germinate and require extra heat. If seeds do not sprout quickly, increase the temperature to above 25°C.

Once the seedlings have developed 3-4 true leaves, transplant them into individual pots. After the last frost, they can be planted in the open ground in a sheltered location. Like tomatoes, you can bury the stem up to the first leaf to encourage strong root development.

In cooler regions (such as north of the Loire), peppers grow better in a greenhouse. However, they can also thrive outdoors in a warm, sunny, and well-ventilated spot, such as against a wall.

Care

Tomato Pepper thrives in well-drained, organically rich soil. Improve the soil’s fertility by adding compost or well-rotted manure.

Keep the soil moist by watering regularly, but avoid prolonged droughts, which can affect fruit quality.

To maximize the plant's energy, you can prune the main stem in northern regions once it has around ten fruits. Additionally, pinch off side shoots with fruit, leaving two leaves after the last fruit. If necessary, provide support, especially for taller varieties.

Feed the plants during the growing season with organic fertilizers or a foliar spray made from diluted nettle manure (such as PurMel 3).

Diseases and Prevention

One of the main threats to peppers is powdery mildew. You can prevent this fungal disease by:
✔ Practicing good crop rotation to keep the soil healthy.
✔ Watering carefully without wetting the leaves.
✔ Spacing plants adequately for proper air circulation.
✔ Strengthening plants with nettle manure or horsetail decoction.
✔ Using seaweed powders as a natural preventative measure.

Harvesting

The harvest period runs from July to October, about 5-6 months after sowing. Green peppers can be picked early, but for optimal flavor and ripeness, allow the fruits to fully develop into their orange or red color. Ripe peppers have a fuller flavor and a softer texture, ideal for fresh consumption or cooking.
