Onion
The onion (Allium cepa) is a biennial herbaceous plant originally from Central Asia. Thanks to selective breeding in the Netherlands since the 15th century, a wide variety of shapes and colors have emerged. Some onion varieties, such as 'oignon cuisse de poulet du Poitou', resemble shallots in shape, while others, like 'Ishikura Long White', form a bulb that does not swell and is harvested fresh.
