Optimal cultivation of pumpkins and squash: Practical tips for a successful harvest

To accelerate fruiting and minimize damage from slugs, it is best to sow pumpkin seeds indoors (20°C) in pots from March to April. After the last frost, around May 15th, transplant the plants into the ground. Ensure a spacing of 1 meter between most pumpkin varieties and up to 2 meters for trailing varieties. Dig small holes and fill them with compost to support the plants effectively.

In addition to sufficient sunlight, pumpkins need soil rich in organic material and regular, abundant watering in dry periods. You can also sow directly in the ground in May, but keep in mind that the harvest will be later and the yield smaller.
