Malva sylvestris var. mauritiana, also known as Mauritanian mallow, is a hardy, perennial plant often grown as a biennial, prized for its generous flowering and medicinal properties. The plant stands out with its large, cup-shaped flowers in deep purple, streaked with darker veins, blooming from May to September. Growing to a height of 60 to 120 cm, this sturdy, upright and branched plant is perfect for enhancing flower beds, natural meadows, or country borders.

Used since ancient times for its medicinal qualities, Mauritanian mallow is commonly brewed in infusions for its soothing effects on respiratory and digestive irritations. The young leaves and flowers can be eaten in salads or used as garnish in cooking. This plant also attracts numerous pollinators, contributing to the garden's biodiversity.

Growing Advice
Direct sow in place in April-May or August-September, in groups of 2-3 seeds every 40 cm or in a nursery. Thrives in full sun or partial shade. Suitable for all soil types, especially humus-rich soil. Easy to cultivate.
