Cherry fly can be fought with pheromone traps. Pheromone traps always consist of a trap or an adhesive plate and a pheromone capsule. The capsule contains female pheromones that attract male moths. By using the trap in combination with the capsule, you can catch the male cherry flies. After two years of catching, you hardly have any male moths left, so the female moths can not be fertilized and can no longer lay eggs in the spring. Without laying eggs, you have no maggots and therefore no damage. Natural control at its best.

The control can be carried out with bug scan plates to hang out against the cherry fly in combination with the pheromone capsule. With the catch plates you catch both the male and female moths. The females are attracted by the yellow color of the plants and the males by the pheromone capsule. Double catch, which also leads to less damage. If you want it a little cheaper, you can use the reusable McPhail trap against cherry fly. This trap with accompanying capsules will attract and catch only the male moths. The result takes a little longer, but you only need to buy additional capsules the following year. You can easily reuse the pheromone trap by rinsing well.

 

Recognize

The cherry fly, Rhagoletis cerasi, has a size of about 4 mm, has a yellow triangle on its back and light yellow stripes on the wings. They fly away in May and lay eggs at a minimum temperature of 16 °C, mainly in sweet cherries. They can destroy a full harvest of half-time and late cherry varieties. Maggots are white.
