Product description

Honeynut Squash

The Small Butternut Squash is a highly productive variety that produces orange flesh with an exceptionally sweet taste. This squash has a hard skin that adds extra resistance to weather conditions and pests, making harvesting easier. It grows slowly to full maturity, ensuring excellent quality.

Growing Tips for the Small Butternut Squash

Sowing:
For the best results, sow Butternut squash indoors (at 20°C) in pots, starting from March-April. This helps speed up fruit formation and prevents damage from slugs. Transplant the seedlings outdoors after the last frost, around May 15th, at a distance of 1 meter apart (up to 2 meters for trailing varieties), in small holes filled with compost.

Soil and Care:
Squashes need plenty of sunlight and a soil rich in organic matter. Ensure regular and adequate watering, especially during dry periods. For optimal growth, provide well-draining soil and mulch around the roots to retain moisture. If you sow directly into the ground (in May), expect a later harvest with a smaller yield.

Harvesting:
Harvest the Butternut squash when the skin is hard and difficult to pierce, and the stem is dried out. It’s advisable to wait until they are fully ripe before harvesting, as this improves their shelf life. Cut the squash carefully, as close to the stem as possible, for optimal storage.

Usage Recommendations for Butternut Squash

Sowing:
Squash seeds need a temperature of 20-22°C to germinate quickly, typically in about 5 days. Be cautious not to overwater, as excess moisture can cause the seed to rot.

Conclusion
The Small Butternut Squash is an ideal choice for gardeners seeking a resilient, productive, and delicious variety with a high yield and sweet, orange flesh.
