Sowing

Sow in August-September, either under cover or directly in the ground, for a harvest in March-April.

Sowing can be done directly in rows or spread out, or in a nursery. If sowing in a nursery, transplant before the first frost, after about four weeks, when the plants have 4 to 5 leaves, with a spacing of 30 cm between them.

For sowing directly in the field: thin out to 10 cm, then to 30 cm to provide adequate space.

Lettuce needs plenty of sunlight, well-decomposed compost, and regular watering during dry spells.

Keep the soil moist by mulching and water regularly during dry periods.

Harvesting

Winter lettuce can be harvested from March to May, towards the end of winter.
