Early Milan Carrot

A fast-growing, medium-sized variety with a uniform cylindrical shape. It has an intense dark orange color and a mild, sweet taste.

Growing Tips for Early Milan Carrot

Sowing
Sow early carrots from February under cover (tunnel, cold greenhouse).

Sow summer or storage carrots directly in open ground from May to July in rows (30 cm apart). Cover with about 1 cm of well-firmed soil and keep the soil moist until germination.

Thin out to 5 cm when the plants have 3-4 leaves, and again two weeks later to 7-10 cm, depending on the variety.

Care
Choose well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Carrots prefer light, sandy soil and full sun exposure.

Regularly cut flower stalks to encourage leaf growth.

Use mulch to retain soil moisture and reduce weeds.

Harvesting
Early and summer varieties can be harvested after 80 to 100 days, while storage varieties take 120 to 140 days. In all cases, harvest before the first heavy frost.

To store after harvesting, cut the leaves close to the top. After drying for a day, store unwashed roots in a cool, dry cellar or storage space. Under good conditions, carrots can be kept for several months. Regularly check for rotten roots and remove them to prevent contamination of the entire batch.

Tips & Tricks
Purple, yellow, and white varieties are less affected by carrot fly.

Soaking and/or chilling seeds can help germination but is not essential.
