Product description

Are you someone who has created an Urban Jungle in your home? Do you have tropical or exotic plants? Sooner or later you will be confronted with spider mites, thrips, aphids or mealy bugs. But not to worry. It can all be controlled biologically with Chrysop. With Chrysop you choose for a biological control and healthy houseplants.

What is Chrysop?
Chrysop contains cards with the eggs of Chrysopa carnea. The larvae of Chrysop control aphids, mealy bugs, spider mite and thrips larvae on houseplants. Adult thrips are not controlled. Chrysop cards are therefore very useful helpers to protect your plant collection.

How to use Chrysop?
Chrysop comes in the form of cards which you can easily hang to the stems of your houseplants. Inside the cards are the eggs of the lacewing. Tear the cards apart without pressing the eggs. Then spread the cards over the affected plants. In the week following the hanging, the larvae will hatch from the eggs. With the naked eye, you cannot see any difference between the hatched cards and the full eggs, so you will have to be patient. As the larvae are very small and hungry, they immediately start looking for food. You can remove the cards from the plants after 1.5 weeks if you wish.

Tip: hang the cards in the immediate vicinity of the harmful insects. In this way, the young larvae do not have to travel long distances to find food. Hang the cards against a leaf or a stem so that the larvae can easily walk on the plant.

Please note: Chrysop can only be used indoors on houseplants.

When can I expect results?
When the cards are attached to the plants, it takes on average between 2 and 5 days for the larvae to emerge from the eggs. After that they remain larvae for 2 to 3 weeks if there is sufficient food on the plants. All that time, they feed on the harmful insects. On average, you can expect results between 2 and 4 weeks after hanging out the cards. The smaller the infestation at the beginning, the faster you will have results. If there is no food left on the plants, the larvae die or cannibalise each other. Therefore, you will not often find adult lacewings in your living room.

When the Chrysop larvae suck out spider mites or mealy bugs, the empty insect skins are left behind on the leaves. One month after hanging out the cards, Chrysop larvae are no longer active and the dead skins can be washed off the plants with soapy water. After that you can - if necessary - put out a new dose of Chrysop.

How many Chrysop cards do I need?
Hang 1 to 3 cards per plant, depending on the size of the plant and the degree of infestation. You should dose in such a way that the purchased cards solve your problem. The larvae remain active for a maximum of two to three weeks. If your infestation is still not under control, then you have probably dosed too little or you have a persistent infestation and it is best to hang out new cards.

Not sure how many cards to hang out? Get advice and contact us! Send some sharp pictures of the underside of the affected leaves so that we can get an idea of your infestation.

Will I be affected by Chrysop myself?
If the harmful insects on your houseplants are eaten by the Chrysop, they die of hunger or start eating each other. So you will rarely notice a chrysalis in your living room.

Chrysopa or their larvae are harmless to humans and beneficial to the environment.

Ants and Chrysopa cards
In the battle against aphids and mealy bugs, it is important to eliminate the ants as much as possible beforehand. Ants protect aphids and mealy bugs in order to benefit from the sugar substance these insects secrete. The ants attack larvae of lacewings so that they cannot eat aphids or mealybugs.

Normally, ants do not bother you in your living room. In indoor gardens, however, it can happen that ants are present on the plants. In that case, first use ecological ant boxes to eliminate the ants before applying Chrysop.

Can I keep the cards with Chrysop eggs?
It is best to hang the cards on the houseplants on the day of receipt. The eggs on the Chrysop cards will hatch on their own. It is not the intention to keep the cards. If nothing else is possible, you can keep them in the fridge at 6°C for a few days. Note: most refrigerators are colder!

Spraying in combination with Chrysop?
Unlike other beneficial insects, Chrysop is less sensitive to harmful sprays. Here is a list of the most common ones:

Conserve Garden: Harmless to Chrysopa and therefore no waiting time.
Fazilo Spray: wait 1 week between spraying and application of Chrysop.
All products based on pyrethrins: 3 days waiting period after the last spray treatment.
Multisect: the waiting period before
