Cultivation and Care for Mixed Christmas Tomatoes: Sowing, Transplanting, and Maintenance Tips

Sow the seeds indoors between mid-February and early April at a constant temperature of at least 20°C, ideally 24°C. Maintain a warm, humid environment with sufficient light, and water regularly. This helps the seeds germinate quickly and develop strong roots.

Transplant the seedlings when they have 2 to 4 leaves into pots at a temperature of 15-20°C. After the last frost, or when the outdoor temperature is at least 15°C, you can plant them outdoors in the ground at a distance of 50 x 80 cm. Tomatoes thrive well in a greenhouse or on a sunny, well-ventilated spot.

Care and Disease Prevention for Christmas Tomatoes

Tomato plants love warmth and organic matter, especially potassium. When planting, bury a large part of the stem to strengthen the roots and promote overall growth.

In colder regions, it is recommended to prune the plants lightly so that the leaves do not touch the ground. This prevents fungal diseases and improves air circulation.

Water the plants regularly without wetting the foliage, as tomatoes are sensitive to powdery mildew. As a preventive measure, you can spray the plants with nettle tea, horsetail decoction, or seaweed powder to protect the plant from fungal diseases.

Additionally, use the ready-to-use Pur'Mel 3 fertilizer. It is particularly effective due to the combination of nettle, comfrey, and horsetail. Dilute the fertilizer with 10% water for prevention and spray the foliage every two weeks. In case of mildew infection, dilute it with 30% water and spray the leaves twice a week until the disease is gone.

Harvesting Christmas Tomatoes

The cherry tomatoes are ripe and ready to harvest about two months after planting. Ripe tomatoes easily detach from the plant and are ready for use. They can be eaten immediately or used as a decoration on dishes.
