Product description

Cherry tomato Yellow Submarine

This powerful cherry tomato variety is highly productive, producing long clusters of yellow, pear-shaped fruits weighing around 30 grams. Due to its mild, sweet flavor, it is especially favored by children, making it an ideal choice for young gardeners. The plant has an indeterminate growth cycle, continuing to grow throughout the season.

Cultural Advice for Yellow Pear-Shaped Cherry Tomatoes

This tomato plant requires a lot of warmth to thrive and is particularly hungry for organic material, especially potassium (K). When planting, bury a large part of the stem to encourage root development. Regular watering is essential, but be careful not to wet the foliage, as tomatoes are highly susceptible to mildew. For prevention, regularly spray with nettle manure or horsetail decoction to protect the plant from fungal diseases.

For indeterminate varieties, prune the shoots growing in the leaf axils to encourage fruit quality over quantity. For determinate or bushy varieties, avoid pruning, but mulch and trellis the plants. In northern areas, light pruning is recommended to prevent leaves from touching the ground. Train the plant into 2 or 3 stems. In August, for tomatoes grown outdoors, prune after the fourth flower cluster and leave one leaf after the last cluster to promote sap flow. In greenhouses, prune around mid-August.

Cherry tomatoes often produce higher yields, ripen earlier, and are less susceptible to diseases compared to larger fruiting varieties. They can also be grown in pots without the need for stakes for bush-type varieties.

Sowing and Planting Tips for Cherry Tomatoes

Sow seeds in a warm location (20-22°C) from mid-February to late April. Transplant the seedlings once they have 2 to 4 leaves in a pot at a temperature between 15-20°C. Afterward, plant the seedlings in the ground at a distance of 50 x 80 cm after the last frost (after April 15). In greenhouses, you can also plant after April 15.

Usage Tips for Cherry Tomatoes

Cherry tomatoes are an excellent choice for early harvesting, as they are less susceptible to diseases and often more productive than larger varieties. They can be grown in both pots and the ground, without requiring stakes for bush varieties. Sow the seeds in a warm place (20-22°C) from mid-February to late April, transplant them into a pot at a temperature of 15-20°C, and then plant them in the ground or greenhouse at a distance of 50 x 80 cm.
