Product description

Cherry tomato Miel du Mexique

The Cherry Tomato Red Pear is a classic old variety of red cherry tomatoes. These tomatoes are slightly late in the season but are highly productive. The round fruits, about 2.5 cm in diameter, form beautiful clusters and have juicy flesh with a sweet, very sweet flavor once fully ripe. The plant is resistant to drought and cracking and grows indeterminately.

Why Choose Cherry Tomatoes?

Cherry tomatoes, like the Red Pear variety, are often more productive, ripen earlier, and are less susceptible to diseases than larger tomato varieties. They can be easily grown in pots, and the bush varieties don’t need support. They are also sweeter, making them a favorite, especially among children.

Growing Tips for Cherry Tomato Red Pear: Sowing, Transplanting, and Maintenance

  1. Sowing: Start sowing the Cherry Tomato Red Pear seeds in an environment with a constant temperature of at least 20°C, preferably 24°C, from mid-February to the end of March/early April (about 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting into the ground).

  2. Transplanting: Once the seedlings have 2 to 4 leaves, transplant them into pots in a warm place (15-20°C). After the last frost (after April 15th), plant them in the ground 50 x 80 cm apart. Growing under glass is recommended, especially in northern regions, but well-lit and ventilated outdoor spaces are also suitable.

Maintenance and Disease Prevention for Cherry Tomato Red Pear

Cherry tomatoes, like the Red Pear, require warmth and organic substances, particularly potassium (K), for healthy growth. When planting, bury a large portion of the stem to encourage root development.

In cooler regions, it’s important to lightly prune the plants to prevent the leaves from touching the ground.

Disease Prevention: Tomatoes are sensitive to powdery mildew, so water them regularly without wetting the leaves. You can also use nettle manure or horsetail tea to strengthen the plant against fungal diseases. Lithothamne, a seaweed powder, is also helpful.

Pur'Mel 3 Fertilizer: This ready-to-use fertilizer, which combines nettles, comfrey, and horsetail, is highly effective. Dilute it with 10% water and spray the plant every two weeks as a disease preventive measure. For powdery mildew, dilute it with 30% water and spray the leaves twice a week until the disease is gone.

Harvesting Cherry Tomato Red Pear

The Cherry Tomato Red Pear is an early variety that ripens about 2 months after planting. Ripe tomatoes fall easily from the plant. It’s the perfect time to harvest when the tomatoes detach.
