Product description

Brussels Sprouts Groninger

The Brussels Sprouts Groninger is a variety with numerous small, very firm sprouts. This variety is highly winter-hardy and can remain in place throughout the winter, making it an excellent choice for winter harvesting.

Cultivation Advice for Brussels Sprouts Groninger

Sowing and Growing Conditions
Sow the Brussels sprouts in March or April in a nursery bed. Transplant the seedlings about six weeks after sowing, when they are approximately fifteen centimeters tall, spaced 75 cm apart in all directions.

Brussels sprouts require rich soil and a cool, sunny location to grow optimally.

Maintenance and Disease Management
Brussels sprouts need regular watering to keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. Make sure the soil does not dry out completely between watering. Mulching helps retain moisture in the soil. Avoid wetting the leaves.

Brussels sprouts are susceptible to caterpillars, slugs, and aphids. Insect netting can be an effective solution to protect your crops from pests.

Harvesting
The harvest of Brussels sprouts begins ideally after the first frost and can continue from November to February, depending on needs.

Tips and Tricks
Good companion plants for Brussels sprouts:

  • Onion and Garlic: Planting onions and garlic near Brussels sprouts can help repel pests.
  • Mâche: Mâche is an excellent plant to pair with Brussels sprouts.
  • Cress: Cress is another good companion plant.
  • Lettuce: Lettuce also works well alongside Brussels sprouts.
  • Avoid planting strawberries nearby as they can hinder the growth of Brussels sprouts.
