Black Hollyhock – A Timeless Garden Showstopper

The black hollyhock (Alcea rosea nigra) is a striking biennial flower with deep dark purple to nearly black blooms, a rarity among garden flowers. With its tall, elegant stems reaching up to 3 meters, this plant makes an impressive statement along walls, fences, or in natural borders. Cultivation and Care

Black hollyhocks thrive in full sun and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Sow indoors from March to May at a minimum temperature of 18°C and transplant after the last frost, spacing the plants 30 x 30 cm apart. Alternatively, direct sowing from May to September will result in flowering the following year. Blooming from June to September, this plant offers a long-lasting display of dramatic, almost mystical beauty in the garden.
